Cares for a Cause is our way of giving back to our local community. Each month, one of our team members selects a local nonprofit to receive a donation. To start off 2021, Michelle chose The ALS Association Alabama Chapter for January!
About the ALS Association Alabama Chapter
The Alabama Chapter was founded in late 2004 to serve the needs of those living with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and their caregivers. They are the only ALS Association-sanctioned organization in the state of Alabama.
The Association covers all the bases — research, patient and community services, public education, and advocacy — in providing help and hope to those facing the disease. The ALS Association (National Office and the Alabama Chapter) operates under a shared mission: to lead the fight to cure and treat ALS through global, cutting-edge research, and to empower people with Lou Gehrig's Disease and their families to live fuller lives by providing them with compassionate care and support.
Why Michelle Chose the ALS Association Alabama Chapter
For Michelle, this cause hits close to home. She says, "ALS...three letters I never want to see together again. After multiple years of sitting through numerous doctors' appointments and exhaustively searching online for a diagnosis for my mom's declining health, we found it. It was not one that I would wish on anyone, especially my mom. But there it was, clear and vivid. Apparently, this fatal disease becomes easier to diagnose as it progresses. And with no cure, all that remains is to keep your loved one close and love on them as they lose motor function for everything except their eyes. However, in the short time since diagnosis, not only have we have been able to lean into the care of our church, family, and friends, but we've also gotten so much comfort, support, and guidance from the local ALS Clinic at Crestwood Hospital and the local ALS Association chapter."
In regards to the ASL Association she says, "I am so glad that I have this to have this great resource to help navigate me through the rough days ahead. I pray that you too will consider giving to this great organization as they help support those in the trenches and find a cure. I know in 2020, like many, this organization has been impacted financially and beyond due to COVID."
